Fatality Collision (Press Release)

On March 31, 2018 at approximately 9:00 p.m. the Abilene Police Department responded to a major motor vehicle collision involving a vehicle and a bicyclist. Preliminary investigation and speaking to witnesses indicate that the bicyclist, identified as 35 year old April Gist of Abilene, was north bound crossing South 27th between South Willis St. and Barrow. The vehicle was a maroon Chevy HHR traveling east bound on South 27th and the driver was identified as 29 year old Kelli Pike also of Abilene. The witness stated that the bicyclist was stationary in the inside lane and was struck by the Chevy HHR. The bicyclist was transported to Hendrick Medical Center where she was pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace Mike McAuliffe. The driver of the vehicle was not injured. At this time intoxication is not suspected and next of kin has been notified.

The investigation is being conducted by members of the Abilene Police Department Traffic Division.
