On Friday, May 11th, 2018 at approximately 10:48 p.m., the Abilene Police Department received multiple calls in reference to a motor vehicle collision on State Loop 322 near the overpass at South Treadaway Blvd. The initial calling parties indicated that multiple lanes of traffic were blocked and at least one person involved in the collision appeared to be seriously injured.

The initial investigation indicates that a white 2002 Nissan Maxima, driven by a 16 year old male, was eastbound on State Loop 322 when it moved left and crossed over the center median into westbound traffic. A red 2016 Ford F-150, driven by a 30 year old female, was westbound at this location and was struck by the Nissan in a near head-on collision in the westbound lanes. After the initial collision, the F-150 was then struck by a 2006 silver Chevy Silverado, driven by a 40 year old white female with a 42 year old male passenger, which was westbound behind the F-150. The Nissan was also struck by a maroon 2006 Ford Fusion, which was westbound on State Loop 322. The Fusion was driven by a 17 year old male with two male passengers, ages 17 and 13.

The driver of the Ford F-150 was transported by ambulance to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. At the time of this release, she is in critical condition. The driver of the Nissan Maxima was also taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. At this time, there is no indication that alcohol or drug use was a factor in this collision.

This crash is being investigated by members of the Abilene Police Department’s Traffic Division. All names are being withheld until confirmation of next of kin notification. An update will be provided with additional details at a later time.
