DWI “No Refusal” Weekend (Press Release)

by Public Information Officer, Friday, July 01, 2011, 02:00 (2356 days ago)

There is a statewide effort to enforce DWI Laws this 4th of July Weekend. Across the state many departments are utilizing “No Refusal Weekend” to combat the DWI problem. Approximately 1200 people die in Texas due to alcohol related fatalities.

Starting 5PM Friday July 1st through midnight July 4th the Abilene Police Department will conduct a “No refusal Weekend”. If anyone is arrested for DWI and refuses to give a breath or blood specimen we will seek a search warrant for that person’s blood. There will be nurses standing by at the Health Department to draw blood and judges on stand-by to sign search warrants. APD will have dedicated units working “DWI Patrol” during this time.

Please join us in making the streets of Abilene safe this 4th of July.
