ABILENE, TX – In December of 2018, the Abilene Police Department’s Cyber Crimes Unit received information from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children which led them to believe a suspect in Abilene was distributing child pornography in Abilene Texas, and Nashville Tennessee, from July 2018 through December 2018.

The Cyber Crimes Unit worked closely with the Abilene Christian University Police Department to identify the suspect who is a former ACU student. Their assistance was instrumental in the identification of the suspect, who was identified as 22 year old Jonathan Linares of Nashville Tennessee.

It was discovered in January of 2019, that Linares had moved back to Nashville at the end of the Fall semester, with no intentions of returning to the school. Detectives conducted an interview with the suspect. He was charged with distributing child pornography while he was here in Abilene through the popular social media app, Tumblr. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Linares and reached out to the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force in Nashville to secure the arrest of Linares. He was arrested on January 18, 2019.

Linares was arrested on an outstanding Taylor County arrest warrant for Second Degree Felony Distribution of Child Pornography. He is currently in Nashville TN, awaiting extradition to Texas.

Social media applications such as Tumblr, KiK, TikTok, SnapChat, Dropbox, Facebook, and many others are used by individuals who target your children in an attempt to exploit them. Parents need to become the first line of defense and monitor the use of these applications.
