ABILENE, TX – On Saturday May 4, 2019 at approximately 9:13 p.m. the Abilene Police Department dispatch received a call for service at 1757 N. 10th. Initial information received indicated that a large fight had occurred at the residence and that a person had been shot at the location.

A short time later the victim, identified as 36-year-old Jacob Garcia, Hispanic male, arrived at Hendricks Medical Center by private auto. Garcia was pronounced deceased a short time after his arrival at the hospital.

Upon securing the crime scene, patrol personnel were able to identity a shooting suspect, 30-year-old Hispanic male Zachary Noel Morelos, and a description of the vehicle in which he fled the scene.

While patrol officers followed leads to locate Morelos, Criminal Investigation personnel interviewed witnesses, processed the scene and developed additional leads that indicated Morelos and another subject identified as 30-year-old Hispanic male Anthony Manuel Valles were enroute to the Metroplex. Coordination with the Texas Department of Public Safety lead to a DPS trooper locating the vehicle and apprehending both subjects in the vicinity of Ranger Hill in Eastland County.

CID detectives along with an APD patrol officer proceeded to the location of the stop where they took custody of Morelos and Valles. The two were taken before an Eastland County magistrate who placed a $1,000,000 bond on Morelos for Murder and a $100,000 bond on Valles for Hindering Apprehension.

The vehicle occupied by Morelos and Valles was towed back to Abilene and is subject of a pending search warrant. The weapon used in the shooting was recovered by the detectives.
