Four Suspects Captured by Cyber Crimes (Press Release)

ABILENE, TX – Four suspects were arrested by the Abilene Police Department’s Cyber Crimes Unit. On April, 26, 2019, agents began an undercover operation, targeting individuals using public web pages and internet sites targeting minors.

On May 23, 2019, detectives assisted by the Department of Public Safety, and the Federal Bureau of Investigations, executed four search and arrest warrants in Abilene, Merkel, Stamford and Brownwood. In all, four males were arrested on various charges. During the execution of multiple search warrants, one vehicle was seized along with numerous electronic devices. Additional cases were developed as a result of this investigation and more arrests are expected.

Chris William Cox (50 yoa), was arrested on Thursday, May 23, in the 1700 Blk. of Bob White Ct. in southwest Abilene. Second Degree Felony Sexual Performance of a Child, Third Degree Felony Online Solicitation of a Minor. Taylor Co.

Russell Alan Baize (63 yoa) arrested in Stamford TX. On Thursday, May 23 in the 200 Blk. of PR 201. Third Degree Felony Online Solicitation of a Minor, Class B Misdemeanor Prostitution. Taylor Co.

Hayden Scott Byers (21 yoa) arrested in Merkel TX in the 1500 Blk. of Sunset St. Second Degree Felony Sexual Performance by a Child. Taylor Co.

Stephen Jeffrey Lee Darneal (22 yoa) was arrested in Brownwood TX in the 2600 Blk. of Elizabeth Dr. Second Degree Felony, Sexual Performance by a Child. Being held in Brown Co.
