Update on Fatal Crash on South First (Press Release)

ABILENE, TX – On June 1, 2019, at approximately 11:12 p.m., the Abilene Police Department received a call of a major vehicle collision on South 1st Street near the intersection of Portland Avenue. Patrol officers arrived and discovered that a pedestrian had been walking northbound across South 1st and was struck by a westbound motorcyclist.

Both the pedestrian and the motorcyclist were transported to a local hospital for injuries sustained in the collision. The motorcyclist involved in the crash is 39 year old Damein Wood. The pedestrian has been identified as 48 year old transient, Ronald Crane. He was pronounced deceased by Justice of the Peace Sparky Dean.

The Abilene Police Department's Traffic Division responded to the scene to complete further investigation. No other vehicles appear to have been involved in this crash. Wood was not wearing a helmet when the collision occurred. It is unknown if alcohol was a factor in this collision. The investigation is on-going.
